Masakala Guesthouse

Situated in the friendly rural village of Masakala (near Matatiele), bordering the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, Masakala Traditional Guesthouse offers panoramic views of the southern Drakensberg Mountains towards Lesotho.

Guests can spend a night or two enjoying Sotho and Xhosa hospitality. Two rondavels, designed and built using local architectural ideas and skills, offer guests a choice of single, double or dormitory style accommodation with hot shower and bath. As the sun sets and evening draws in, guests may savour a traditional meal prepared by a local catering group. Home-grown vegetables, fresh produce and African recipes feature on the menu alongside conventional fare, allowing taste buds to experience traditional rural cooking.
Masakala's activities include guided walking tours to rock art treasures, bird watching and horse riding. Guests have opportunities to visit local projects, meet local crafters or simply rest and enjoy the serenity.
